Banbury-based law firm Spratt Endicott Solicitors has been granted permission to appoint a non-lawyer partner.
Martin Hughes, non-lawyer head of Commercial Recoveries at the leading regional law firm, has now been appointed a non-lawyer equity partner at the firm.
There are still very few firms nationwide to be given permission by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) to appoint partners who are qualified in other disciplines.
John Spratt, senior partner at Spratt Endicott Solicitors, says: “With Martin’s experience we have a combination of non–lawyers and lawyers who will take responsibility for the delivery of a coherent business plan which will ensure the delivery of our ultimate objective – to provide exceptional client service. Martin has been with the business for a number of years during which he has built up the Commercial Recoveries department from a minimal client base to a successful team which has consistently been highly ranked by Legal 500. Martin’s well-earned promotion reflects his dedication and commitment to the firm.
“The changes to the structure of the legal profession will allow us to increase the value and knowledge we deliver to our clients, as in the past law firms have been constrained in their thinking, regulation and capital. These changes will really allow us to take advantage of the opportunity to manage our law firm, particularly our substantial Commercial Recoveries department.”
Martin joined Shoosmiths Solicitors in 1990, where he headed up both the Banbury and Reading Debt Recovery departments until a demerger in 2002 saw the Banbury practice become Spratt Endicott. Martin transferred with the business and has continued to build on the success of the department. Over the years Martin has won numerous clients including major financial institutions, OCS, Brookstreet and Manpower.
Martin says: “I thoroughly enjoy working at Spratt Endicott and I’m delighted to have been awarded this promotion. Our team of 30 has a wealth of experience and continually strives to provide excellent client service and sound advice. I look forward to working with the team to continue building on our success.”
Martin has over 25 years’ experience of credit management and is a member of the Institute of Credit Management. Prior to joining Spratt Endicott Martin was Head of Sales and Purchase Accounting for GKN Autoparts.
