The Bower House, a 75-seat restaurant with rooms, has recently opened its doors in a Georgian building in the heart of the thriving market town of Shipston on Stour, on the edge of the Cotswolds and just 10 miles from Stratford-upon-Avon; the town was recently named the best place to live in the Midlands by The Sunday Times.
Owner Andrew Knight hopes The Bower House will help to fill the gap for a democratic independent restaurant: “The Cotswolds, and the British countryside in general, have a wonderful surfeit of great gastro pubs and grand country house hotels, but very few good, democratic, proper restaurants. It’s a nonsense that it’s only London and the cities who want them – we all want a beautiful, welcoming room to sit in and to be served good food with warmth and understated attention”.
The Bower House restaurant is currently open for lunch (12 noon to 2:30pm) and dinner (6pm to 9:30pm) Tuesday to Saturday and for lunch (12 noon to 5pm) on Sunday; it is closed on Monday. Opening hours will expand. keep an eye on the website for further details www.thebowerhouseshipston.com
