Adderbury Community Food Market
Adderbury Community Food Market
On a cold Thursday evening, 14th November, the residents of Adderbury and neighbouring villages came to enjoy the first of its monthly Community Food Markets. The novelty of an evening market drew the villagers, young and old, to the Institute on the Green to shop for top quality locally produced provisions:
Organic breads from Appletree Bakery; cheeses provided by Fowlers Cheese (the oldest family cheese makers in England); jams, zesty marmalades and chutneys by Handmade in Oxfordshire; fruit and vegetables grown by Anson’s Veg; health foods sourced by Natural Health Store; chicken, game and eggs from Moore & Lyon; delicate bonnes bouches conjured up by Once Bitten; chillies and fudge by Jane Gilmore; and a range of fresh meats sourced locally for the Meat Joint.
The experience was completed with freshly cooked sausages and mash provided by the Pig Place, a glass of wine or a pint from the bar and finishing off with the superb desserts and cakes created by Cotswold Baking (for those who could not wait to take them home!) - all to be enjoyed while looking over the happy throng.
All the while Heritage Fruit Trees attracted attention with an astonishing display and tastings on over fifty varieties of apple.
The Market will normally be held on the second Thursday in each month but to allow everyone to buy the food in time for Christmas the next Market will be at the Adderbury Institute on Thursday, 19th December from 6.00pm to 8.30pm when an even greater range of foods will be available.
