Held on Sunday 25th August 2013, Bookmarks Festival will be returning to the South Northamptonshire village of Helmdon. Entering the second year, the not-for-profit, free festival will once again be celebrating great literature, both local and beyond.

The centrepiece of the afternoon will be readings from three of Northamptonshire’s most notable and esteemed writers : Adrian Magson, Alison McQueen and Garry O’Connor. The three authors will be reading from their work, taking part in a joint Q&A session and signing copies of their books. You can find out more about the writers who will be speaking at Bookmarks on our Authors page.

In addition to the readings, there will also be books to buy, literary related stalls, competitions, refreshments and much more throughout the afternoon.

This year, the festival will be raising funds for the Syrian humanitarian charity Hand In Hand For Syria, a non-political UK based organisation who provide expert care and medical aid for Syrian refugees.

In conjunction with the event, Bookmarks Festival is running two free creative writing competitions, calling for submissions from writers of all ages and abilities. There is £50.00 of National Book Tokens to be won in both categories and the best submissions will be published in the festival’s charity anthology. Find out more here.

LEVELLERS CELEBRATE 25 YEARS, ANNOUNCE UK SUMMER DATES AND

UNVEIL DETAILS OF NEW 5 TRACK EP SUPPORTING WAR CHILD

'THE RECRUITING SERGEANT'
featuring The Copper Family, Shona Kipling & Dan Walsh
Mixed by Matt Lawrence (Mumford & Sons, Grinderman, Emile Sande)

Brighton folk-rockers Levellers are celebrating their recent 25th Anniversary, have announceed a raft of UK summer gigs and festivals, and unveiled details of a new 5 Track EP supporting the War Child charity.Levellers released a five-track anti-war EP on 5 May 2013 featuring a new recording of 'The Recruiting Sergeant' with special guests traditional English folk singers The Copper Family, plus Shona Kipling and Dan Walsh. It was mixed by Matt Lawrence (Mumford & Sons, Grinderman, Bat For Lashes). The song is itself a contemporary reworking of the cautionary traditional Black Watch anthem, ‘Twa Recruitin’ Sergeants’. There is also a brand new video to accompany the new release directed and produced by Rich Mulryne. Levellers have produced videos for every track so far on their new album and this new one completes the project. The original album version, which is an anti-war song not an anti soldier song, features on their 10th studio album 'Static on the Airwaves', which was released to critical acclaim in 2012. The EP also includes 3 other anti-war Levellers tracks - 'Another Man's Cause', 'Not In My Name' and 'Barrel Of A Gun' plus the original album version of 'Recruiting Sergeant'. All profits from the EP release will be donated to War Child, the charity for children affected by war and set up to protect children living in the world's most dangerous war zones.Levellers celebrated the 25th Anniversary of their first gig on 3rd March 2013, and are playing an extensive number UK gigs and festivals this summer, including Isle of Wight, Cambridge Folk Festival and a headline slot at Dorset's Camp Bestival.

11th biennial FRESH AIR 2013, set up by art collectors Lucy and David Abel Smith, takes place at Quenington Old Rectory, Cirencester, Gloucestershire GL75BN
from Sunday 16th June to Sunday 7th July 2013.

The purpose of the FRESH AIR sculpture exhibition is ‘to wash the dust from the soul of everyday life’ and to provide the opportunity to celebrate the vitality and diversity of sculpture and its capacity to challenge. Sculpture today embraces a broad spectrum of objects, film, photography, installation, text, sound and performance which are all mainstays of a contemporary vision and FRESH AIR actively encourages this diversity.

Where else can you find a combination of brilliantly coloured sound reflector sculptures, a newly composed digital audio sound-track and a trapeze artist forming a heart-lifting art installation under a huge copper beech tree? The answer is found in the exquisite 5-acre garden and river at Quenington Old Rectory which form a stunning stage setting for the most exciting and eagerly-awaited sculpture show in the country.

Art for the garden has now become main-stream but in order to compete with the richness and colour of nature, outdoor sculpture has had to evolve in surprising and delightful directions since the very first FRESH AIR show in 1992. Over 12,000 people visited FRESH AIR 2011. This year’s line-up includes 91 international artists combining established and inspiring new talent (31 are new this year) using a combination of conventional and unusual materials such as glass, stone, ceramic, marble, wood, fabric, plastic, resin, bronze, stainless steel and multi-media installations. Prices range from £50 to £20,000 with one or two more expensive pieces up to £50,000.
