Event Management students are putting their learnings to the test as they organise the Cynthia Spencer Sunset Stride.

The Sunset Stride, a 12km walk around Pitsford Reservoir, is taking place on Saturday 27 April at Brixworth Country Park in Northampton from 6pm, in aid of Cynthia Spencer Hospice.

The event is being organised by final year BA Events Management students at the University of Northampton.

This is a capstone project for final year students; Abbie Campbell, Amie Burn, Shannon Franklin and Charlotte Shaw. Their handling of the event will be assessed by tutors and their grade will go towards their final degree classification.

Abbie said: “We are excited to organise such a prestigious event for the county. The purpose of this event is to raise as much money as possible for Cynthia Spencer Hospice so that the charity can continue to do the amazing work for the many people who desperately need it.

“It’s the perfect opportunity to stretch those legs, have a get together with friends and family, make memories and raise as much money as possible for this incredible cause.

Sarah Denston, the Events Fundraiser at Cynthia Spencer Hospice said “We are really looking forward to being part of this event, and so grateful that for this being the second year a group of Events Management students for the university are supporting Cynthia Spencer. The funds that will be raised will help us to continue to support the staff and services provided in Northampton and across the county.”

There were 164 attendees at last year’s event and the total raised was £9,572.52. The target this year is to welcome more than 250 attendees and reach £10,000 in donations.

Abbie added: “This years’ theme is Cynthia Spencer colours which are blue and yellow. Participants are welcome to be as imaginative as possible, they can simply wear blue if this feels more comfortable but turning up as a yellow minion or a blue avatar is totally welcomed too.

“As well as the fancy dress option to make the walk interesting and unique, there will be a DJ to entertain the participants prior to the walk starting and a warm up by Fitness4less. There will also be food vendors available before the walk for refreshments.”

Tickets can be purchased via The Little Box Office and via the Facebook fundraiser page https://www.facebook.com/SunsetStrideFundraiser. There are currently early bird tickets on sale for £10 per adult, these are only available for a limited period and then general admission will be £12.50 per adult. Tickets can also be purchased at the event for £15.00 per adult.
