The 06 Gallery at John Mason School in Abingdon will unveil a new art exhibition this week. Beyond Vision, which will run from the 3rd 17th December, is a retrospective of work by Sharon Wyper, an Oxford based artist specialising in painting and 2D media. The public can visit the exhibition Monday to Friday, 9:00am 4.00 pm, during term time. Sharon has taken different routes in the pursuit of 'seeing' that which is beyond the visually obvious. As part of her exhibition, Sharon will be displaying the piece she created as a result of her residency at local science facility, Diamond Light Source, which is near Didcot in Oxfordshire.
As the UK's national synchrotron facility, Diamond enables scientists to delve deep into matter and materials to reveal the atomic and molecular structure of the world around us.
During her time at Diamond, Sharon identified some cable drum ends left over from the construction of one of the experimental stations and these became her canvas. Speaking about the work, Sharon explains, "I wanted to capture a holistic view of my experience at Diamond and some of the drum ends had unique markings on them which reminded me of the diffraction and scattering patterns created during the scientific experiments that take place here. They seemed the perfect vehicle for expressing my experience of Diamond's work and the piece combines the utilitarian with the 'eureka' of scientific discoveries"
