Parents of children aged 5 – 15 can book spots on the Cherwell District Council’s activity programmes for this summer, which have enjoyed a surge of demand over the past year, and the recent half-term hubs were at full capacity with hundreds of attendances.
Cllr George Reynolds, deputy leader for Cherwell, said: “The clocks are now ticking down towards the summer holidays. The district’s children will be excited about spending six weeks off school but their parents may be concerned about how to keep them active and occupied. Cherwell’s hubs are a cost-effective solution, because young people can have fun while parents relax in the knowledge that their children are being looked after by qualified and DBS-cleared coaches. In the past year our hubs have been in high demand. We are pleased to welcome repeat customers as well as new participants who are eager to get active and make friends. Because of the hubs’ popularity we are opening the booking lines well in advance so that parents have ample opportunity to book their children a place and set them up for a summer of fun.”
The full hub programmes run from Monday, 25 July to Friday, 2 September at North Oxfordshire Academy in Banbury, Cooper School Sports Facility in Bicester and Warriner School in Bloxham. Shorter programmes will also be offered between 3 and 18 August at Exeter Hall Pavilion in Kidlington and between 27 July and 25 August at Heyford Park Free School in Heyford.
The hubs will feature sports, arts, crafts and games. There will also be guest activities which vary daily; these will include swimming, table tennis, fencing and archery.
All sessions are led by DBS (formerly CRB) checked staff. Lunch breaks are supervised but not catered.
Children may attend from 8.45am to 3pm for £14.95 or from 8.45am to 5pm for £18.95. This works out at just over £2.25 per hour.
